With support from the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, Heatwood is investing 12 million SEK to ensure completely fossil-free production of heat-treated wood. With this environmental initiative, the company will reduce its carbon footprint and simultaneously enhance the environmental benefit of the Thermowood product.

Climate Leap is an investment support program from the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency provided to companies that can carry out physical investments with significant climate benefits. With the support from Climate Leap, Heatwood will now reduce its emissions by a substantial 85%.

"Environment and sustainability are two issues that are close to our hearts. We are incredibly proud and happy that the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency approved our application. With the new boiler facility, we will also increase the energy efficiency of our operations by approximately 20%, which feels absolutely fantastic," says Erik Åström, co-owner of Heatwood.

Founded in 2007, Heatwood has been providing the construction industry with an environmentally friendly alternative for pressure-treated wood since its inception. Today, the company is Sweden's first and so far only producer of the Thermowood product.

"The construction industry accounts for a significant portion of carbon dioxide emissions, and with this awareness, we have always strived to manufacture environmentally friendly wood materials free from chemicals that harm our environment. We hope that our environmental initiatives can inspire more within the construction industry to look for sustainable and climate-smart solutions," explains Gustav Åström, CEO and co-owner of Heatwood.

In recent years, Heatwood, like other industry colleagues, has noticed an increased interest in the climate impact of buildings among clients and customers in Scandinavia. Additionally, all new constructions in Sweden must declare the amount of climate-damaging carbon dioxide their constructions contribute to the atmosphere in the near future.

"We naturally follow the public debate and see a growing demand for climate-friendly construction worldwide. The environmental and climate aspects are considered alongside the economic ones in a completely different way than before," concludes Gustav Åström with a warm smile.
